Will medical insurance pay for a presription for a dog, for a person will mild depression?

I know that some medical providers (doctors and shrinks) sometimes tell a person to get a dog for mild depression, if they are against taking pills. Will medical insurance companies cover this or part of this prescription. This topic came up at a guys night, as one of my friend’s girlfriend is feeling down and her doctor was talking to her about this.

Good News For Medical Insurance Companies

Cancer, heart attack and organ failure are the biggest and most frequently claimed for illnesses on medical insurance. However, new discoveries are being made all the time and it is hoped that this reduce premiums for medical insurance as these illnesses become more manageable and treatable.

Breast cancer is one of the few cancers that can be linked to genes and one of the biggest illnesses responsible for women making medical insurance claims. However, in medical advances, scientists have identified the key gene responsible for the spread of this devastating disease to other parts of the body.

Apparently, the gene SATB1 controls how more than 1,000 other genes behave within tumour cells and when it is over-activated, this is when the path for cancer is smoothed into other parts of the body. Interfering with this gene through the use of specific drugs would halt the march of cancer through the body, helping over 44,000 women in the UK every year.

Further news from the world of medicine includes news that experiments are being carried out that will cause tiny pieces of skin to grow into the chameleon-like ones in embryonic stem cells. They could then be deliberately formed into heart cells and transplanted onto heart attack victims. This is hoped to prolong the life of tens of thousands of victims every year and improve the quality of their life.

These repair kits could also be used to test drugs on and would also reduce the risk of side effects on treated patients. The patient’s own cells could be used omitting the risk of rejection or a bank of cells could be set up and on standby. Unfortunately, due to lack of testing to date, it is thought that this treatment is still at least a decade away.

When it comes to organ failure claims on the books of medical insurance companies, this is also quite high. But once again, there is good news emerging for sufferers. As with a lot of illnesses and diseases, early detection is the key and doctors are being made more aware of the signs and symptoms to look out for to cope with these problems before they become out of hand.

Kidney failure is often blamed on other things and goes for a long time undetected. But now it has emerged that long term tiredness and being overweight are simple symptoms that should make a doctor sit up and take notice. Tiredness and being overweight are very general symptoms that are frequently put down to lifestyle or the ageing process but it is advisable to get a second opinion if you are not happy.

Always better to kick up a fuss with your doctor than get to a point when claiming on medical insurance is a necessity.

In a record operation, doctors have recently carried out six kidney transplants simultaneously. It took nine medical teams a total of ten hours to perform the transplants on six patients. Friends and relatives of the sick people had come forward and offered themselves as donors but when it was found they did not match their relative, but another of the group, a mass operation was set up.

The operations were done at the same time to avoid anyone backing out once their loved one had received their new organ and so far, all is well. Some of these patients have lived for years on the organ donor waiting list and, unable to work, have survived on medical insurance payouts.

Don’t Be Forced To Pay Too Much For Medical Insurance!

It’s hard to give up several hundred dollars a month for something you might not need to use all the time, but when major medical insurance is needed, the investment is more than worthwhile. Since medical bills can pile up into the thousands and even hundreds of thousands without any warning, going without major medical insurance can be a gamble most people can ill afford to take.

Visitors Medical Insurance

International Medical Insurance

Travel can be a wonderful experience, provided you aren’t unfortunate enough to become ill or suffer an accident that is. If you travel outside your own country, and do not have adequate visitor’s medical insurance, it could turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes in your life. Not only could it end up costing as much as a condo, it may even put your health and wellbeing into serious jeopardy. Today, visitors insurance has never been so easy to find, or affordable. So why take the risk?

What‘s covered?

Policies can cover a range of types of treatment. Primarily, your concern should be whether consultations, urgent care or emergency treatment is included. Consultations refer to visiting a medical practitioner, usually, at a medical centre. Urgent care involves more serious conditions, like a fever, a bad cut or even a fracture.

Anything which needs medical attention quickly.  Emergency treatment means any medical condition considered life threatening or any illness which could cause permanent physical damage, if treatment was delayed. As would be the case with a heart attack, stroke or any serious accident.

Pre-Existing Conditions

Most insurance companies will not cover any medical expenses incurred, for any pre-existing medical conditions. This means, any illness or condition you are currently receiving medical treatment at home for. This would include pregnancy, angina, high blood pressure, even AIDS. It is important to be honest with the insurance company before taking out any policy.

If you don’t tell them about a condition, they will find out, in the event of any claim being made. You will only be getting yourself into hot water, and, you never know, your particular type of illness may not be excluded. Every insurance company will have different exclusions in place.  When it comes to providing them with the necessary information, honesty is definitely the best policy. Often, it’s simply a matter of shopping around.

Who’s Covered?

A medical examination is not normally required by most insurance companies. Just about anyone can get some kind of personal visitor’s medical insurance. It is also possible to take out a policy for more than one person and some companies do offer ‘family policies’. A perfect solution for couples with young children.

Usually only one passport number will be required. Don’t worry that other members might not be covered, simply because the company only has one passport number. This is normal procedure for many companies. Usually, the only form of identification needed is a passport, although companies can vary.

Checking Your Policy

If you have made a mistake, the company does not have the correct details stated within the policy or you do not have the correct cover, you must contact them immediately. They can arrange for the necessary changes to be made.  If you choose to buy insurance online, a confirmation email is usually sent straight away. This will include all the important details.

Check it carefully, if there are any mistakes, now’s the time to let the company know. If everything is in order, keep a copy safe, and a hardcopy is always a good backup to have. Your visitor’s medical insurance card should be in the mail soon afterwards.  This will also have important details on it and should be kept in a safe place on your travels. It could turn out to be as essential as your passport.

Cover your ‘precious’ Life With the ‘protective Shield’ of Medical Insurance

‘Life is a bundle of surprises!’

Do not let the surprises shock you. Unforeseen emergencies crop up in life without any prior notice. So, it goes without saying that we need to prepare ourselves in advance to deal with such unexpected contingencies.

People across the globe are understanding the importance of shielding their lives with the protective shield of medical insurance. Various types of medical insurance policies are available for individuals, self-employed people, small businesses, big corporate houses and so on.

Opting for private medical insurance ensures flexibility and variety. You can choose a policy from a wide range of choices as per your financial and personal requirements.

The different types of individual medical insurance covers available are:

budget

standard

luxury

Private medical cover gives you the freedom and discretion to choose where, when and how you are treated in case of some medical problem. Some individual health insurance providers limit the choice to specified hospitals.

In the past, there was hardly any variety in the health insurance policies. However, things have changed in the past few years. Now, private health insurance providers keep the customer interests in focus. They have developed a few innovative products to cater to people with diverse medical cover needs.

These products are:

mix-and-match self choice products

self pay and high excess options

limited cover products.

Another advantage that you get by going for private medical insurance is that you can often add other insurances to it, such as health cash, critical illness, life, income protection, travel and dental.

Nowadays, two forms of underwriting is commonly used for applying to a health insurance policy:

moratorium

relatively simple

applicant needs to just sign to confirm that he/she understands the policy

full medical assessment

relatively complicated and time consuming

applicant needs to provide medical history depending on which the insurer may exclude or limit a condition/benefit

So, do not let unexpected twists and turns in life throw you in a disarray. Instead, prepare yourself for that intelligently and make life…a bed of roses!

Short-Term Medical Insurance - Best Option For Young Adults

As you graduate from school and enter into adulthood, there are many decisions you need to start making for yourself. One of them involves taking care of and being responsible for your health, both physically and financially, and to try and provide adequate protection and coverage against any unforeseen circumstances as best you can. What are you to do if you are suddenly struck with a serious disease that calls for expensive treatments? Or what happens if some kind of disability befalls you as a result of a serious accident?

So as you live your life, your best approach for you would be to be prepared for everything that life throws at you. To start off, it is a good idea to build up your savings and investments, as these will pay off later. You should also consider buying a medical insurance to provide a protective coverage for your health. Maybe at this stage of your life as you enter into adulthood you cannot really afford major medical insurance, but a short term medical insurance should suffice. It really does not matter what type of medical health insurance you buy; as long as you have one is what matters.

Ideal Time To Get Short-Term Medical Insurance

The ideal age for buying a short-term medical insurance is anywhere between eighteen and sixty five years old. For the college goers this type of insurance is the best way of saving and also getting medical attention during emergencies or illnesses. It is also a good tool for saving for those new to the job market and for those who are still not ready to make more significant investments.

Low Premium

As the premium amount for a short term medical insurance is very small, sometimes as little as $80 per month in most of the cases, you can well afford it even if you are not making that much money at this time.

Range Of Medical Service Covered

The short-term medical insurance covers most of the medical services. From admission into a hospital to a revisit for checkups, everything is covered by such medical insurances. Medical tests as well as emergency medical attention are all taken care of by your insurance. However, what it does not cover is the cost of visits to doctors for routine checkups.

So as you can see, having a short term medical insurance is extremely important as it helps you on your way to becoming self sufficient.
