No Medical Insurance: How much for a check-up and prescriptions?

Somehow, after a series of unfortunate events, I was left out of my family’s insurance. So basically I have no medical insuranec whatsoever, but to get to the point:

I need to visit my doctor so I can get her to prescribe me anti-depressants, or maybe even just to have a check up so she can see how I’m doing and she can recommend what would be best for me.

My question is, since I have no insurance, what do I have to pay for, and how much will it cost? Are there hidden fees that I have to pay for? How about medication? How much will it all cost?

I live around San Francisco, California by the way. Just incase it matters.

Can medical Insurance companies share information about the patients with out the patient’s consent?

When a person changes Medical Insurance, does the first and second insurance company have the right to give information about you to each other? Is it up to the state? How does the HEPA law fit in? I am beginning to believe that the primary concern of insurance companies is to get rich, even if it means their clients die or become homeless. Look at the victims in Missisippi and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I know we need insurance but it is a nessasary evil. P.S buy insurance when you are age 18. It is SO much cheaper. The price seems to double every time you become 5 years older.

Are people brainwashed by medical insurance corporations?

Think really hard about what I’m about to say.
I believe that the corporate world has so influenced our way of life that when the government wants to ALLOW people to have the choice of private or public medical insurance people are so afraid of change they will do anything to prevent it. Corporate insurance companies are so powerfull in creating fear of the public option people are so closed minded to accept it.
What is so wrong with having a CHOICE of either public or private health insurance?
They DO NOT want the competition, they are monopolies.
