It wouldn’t be funny if it wasn’t so true… Julie Andrews turned
69 - To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist,
Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan ’s Radio City Music
Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she
performed was My Favorite Things from the legendary movie Sound Of
Music.

Here are the actual lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails
and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These
are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and
Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches
with swings, These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I
simply remember my favorite things, And then I don’t feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or
food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they
bring, These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin’, Thin bones and
fractures and hair that is thinnin’, And we won’t mention our short,
shrunken frames, When we remember our favori te things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, Then
I remember the great life I’ve had, And then I don’t feel so bad.

Has an insurance company turned you down for coverage if you have high blood pressure?

My cousin recently told me that his mother at the age of 60, and unemployed, was turned down for health insurance some years back, because one of the first questions the agent she was applying with asked, Do you have high blood pressure? When she said yes, the agent said they could not cover her due to the condition. She was of course, not old enough for Medicare, so she was without medical insurance until she could get Medicare. That lack of health insurance ended up being the death of her, because she was not able to affordable treatment on her own and by the time she did have Medicare and a supplement, her serious condition had progressed to the critical stage. How sad. Her husband 65, was already drawing Medicare with AARP as a supplement. He was unable to continue paying the extremely high premiums of the company insurance he had at his job, once he retired. Anyone with a similiar situation, or know someone this has happened to?
This incident happened over 15 yrs ago.

Should Senior Citizens be an ‘Entitlement’ Group?

AARP evidently believes every penny that can be squeezed out of the government to ‘help’ senior citizens ought to be squeezed. A lot of seniors agree.

Even many of those I’ve overheard when they stopped in-route to winter in Arizona in their RVs from their summer homes in colder climates.

My personal thought is that it’s dangerous thinking. I believe we’re robbing our own offspring, setting ourselves up for resentment, and sacrificing our dignity when we seek more government attention to senior citizens or encourage more dependency.

When times get hard entitlements will be the first to dry up. That will hit particularly hard among groups who’ve used the guilt-tool for decades or generations to persuade themselves the government ‘owes’ something. The habit of dependency will make survival far more a challenge.

Do we want to be among them?
Sophieleb: Sorry to have given you the impression I was asking for your analysis and second-guessing. Is the ID you’re using the same one you were using when you got those impressions? If not, maybe you lost something in the personality change.

Is it surprising to think that Julie Andrews turned 69?

Here’s a brief synoposis of what happened…it about broke my heart because I loved her voice AND thought her to be in real life just as her movie characters were..loving, kind and gentle. I remember hearing an interview with her after her surgery and she said how much she prayed she could sing again. Later when she realized she couldn’t she said she had come to grips with it…it IS sad!

Andrews was forced to quit a show towards the end of the Broadway run, when she developed vocal problems. She subsequently underwent surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat and was left unable to sing.[2] In 1999, Andrews filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctors at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, including Stuart Kessler, who had operated on her throat. Originally, the doctors claimed that she should regain her voice within six weeks, but Andrews’ stepdaughter Jennifer Edwards has claimed that it’s been two years, and it [her singing voice] still hasn’t return
The additional information is by sage seeker. Thank you!

If Madonna gets divorced, does that mean she’ll have to come back to the U.S?

Is she eligible to join Y/A Senior Citizens? Do you suppose she’s gotten her first AARP letter yet?
Its dental care that’s the killer cost.
Poops: I certainly don’t.

What I should have said is:

Is it REVERSIBLE?

So, any senior citizen puck bunnies who want Chris Chelios?

Be honest now! psst he plays in the NHL on the AARP Squad aka the Red Wings.

We wish you a long life and a healthy one. the fondest wish in your first 50 yrs?

Oddly enough, you don’t have to get very old before realizing that there are many people who resent you, as an old person, taking up space on the planet. If you have a part-time job, it is begrudged you because it should be given to someone with a family to support. I’ve heard the impatience of people in stores because an old person is in the way and is suspected of being senile: Old and senile, same thing. Some see that your social security is the same as welfare - paid out of their tax dollars. I’ve heard it on talk shows. They don’t consider that it may have taken you 50+ years as a wage earner, contributing to your account in order to collect at age 65.. AARP magazine focuses on seniors who drive a succession of new cars, have second homes somewhere in the world, travel a lot and live better than most of us ever hoped to live at any time in our lives. That’s the way it is. The working poor are the forgotten people in every generation. We earned every day of it.

Is one glass of wine good for my elderly friend? She has heart problems I want to do something to help?

I read in AARP that wine was good for the heart and circulation. Is wine good for a senior person? She does not take meds.
