We don’t have medical insurance but we paid for medical. Do we files that too?
My husband was on medicaid insurance for most of his life until last year, they cut him off. We went without any kind of medical insurance for a year. We paid for hospital, doctor visits, medicines and all that. Can we file that too? I am not sure…we never have to file for it before but with AMT going on and I am so scared we will have to pay more back Federal this time. I understand the more itemized we have, the more money we have to pay back to AMT. Am I right or wrong?

If your receipts show that you paid tons of medical expenses last year, then by all means itemize.
Even if you are affected by AMT, it wouldn’t be the entire amount.

The limit for medicaid its possible to affect you just got over the limit for medicaid its very unlikely that you make enough to itemize and even then you have to itemize and even then you can only deduct unreimbursed medical thats over 75 of your.
